You’d be shocked by these 4 foods that you “think” are helping you lose weight ⬇
Fat-free fruit yogurts
Don’t be fooled just because it says “fat-free” on the label doesn’t mean it’s gonna help you lose weight.
Fat-free fruit yogurts usually contain artificial sweeteners to make them more palatable. Artificial sweeteners do more harm than good compared to fat.
Switch to a full-fat natural or Greek yogurt. Add in some of your favorite fresh fruits.
Diet Coke
If only you looked like the man from the diet coke ad with a 6-pack after drinking your way through cans of diet coke all day 😂
The truth is Diet Coke contains as much caffeine as a cup of coffee and MORE than a regular Coke. This puts pressure on your adrenal glands and creates stress on your body. Result… MORE weight gain.
AND…
Artificial sweeteners will trick your brain and keep you addicted to “the sweet taste”. Result… your blood sugar + insulin spike (without eating any real sugar) which gives your body the signal to store and stop burning fat.
Reduce your daily Diet Coke intake and swap for sparkling water infused with fresh fruits instead.
Rice cakes
Even though low in calories, rice cakes are highly processed and contain no fibre.
They break down really quickly and turn into sugar. This causes both a spike in your blood sugar AND your insulin levels.
Balancing your blood sugar levels and reducing insulin resistance are key when you are trying to lose weight.
Swap rice cakes for 1 or 2 oat biscuits.
Agave Nectar
Often marketed as a healthy natural sweetener that doesn’t spike blood sugar levels. True but…
It contains fructose which has a very different effect on the body. Whilst your cells can use sugar for energy, they can’t use fructose. Only your liver can but it’s turned into fat and contributes to belly fat, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, ‘bad’ cholesterol, weight gain, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.
If you want to use natural sweeteners, stevia, xylitol or monk fruit are better options.
